Day 8 – Rest Day

I could not believe I was waking up at this beautiful place .  Outside every window is a magnificent view and it is so peaceful.   It felt lovely to lie in (as per Hilary’s instructions) and take my time ambling down to breakfast.   She greeted me with her lovely warm face, apron on , long brown hair tied to the side in a plait .  I sat and had the most delicious breakfast , although at this point I was getting the first signs of tummy ache …. After breakfast I was able to sit on the terrace and have phone reception to call home . It was able to have a long chat with everyone .  Except Dad, will try again tomorrow Dad.    Xxxxx

I took a stroll around the grounds …  (As per Mary… And feeling a bit more like her than last nights entrance) when suddenly an overwhelming tiredness came over me.  I headed back to my room for a lie down and slept for the next three hours!
When I woke up the tummy ache had become a series of intense cramps and all thoughts of afternoon tea and dinner were gone .  I had no appetite at all and lay feeling nauseous .   I told Hilary , she cancelled my dinner reservation for me and promptly sent me back to bed offering me a simple sandwich – I couldn’t even manage this . (although I have my suspicions Hilary never just makes a simple sandwich.  ). I got in bed at 6pm and only stirred once until 6.30 this morning.

So my rest day was most certainly that , rest.  I slept lots and I suppose if I was going to get a bug then today was a good day to get it.    I was willing myself to wake up feeling back to normal .

All in all though it has been such a memorable point in the trip meeting Hilary and her lovely husband.  They were so kind , caring and welcoming and on a day when I missed my Mum and could have done with a forehead stroke , they made a lovely substitute.   Xxx
