The sun was out and it was glorious ! T-shirt weather for the walk out of Bampton . It was a lovely walk back through the tiny village to Burnbanks, where we had turned off the path for Bampton, and to pick the coast to coast path back up. Rolling hills and fields, laneways covered in flowers made it a gorgeous walk. I am so glad I stayed in Bampton and didn’t walk straight to Shap yesterday . Bampton doesn’t have the tourist crowds of Grasmere but it is such an unspoilt village and it looks like nothing…

Today has been an unbelievable walk out of Patterdale. 12 and a half miles and up to Kidsty Pike, the highest point on the whole coast to coast walk. (2,560 feet) a lot of up and a lot of down … Aaahhh!!! It has been an emotional day for me . The first tear shed as I turned back after a big climb up to Angle Tarn to see the fells of the Lake District behind me. I leave them behind me today, heading towards the Yorkshire Dales. I didn’t realise how sad I would feel to end this…

Today is the shortest walk on my walk, at only 8 miles . There are 3 options to the route , up to climb Helvellyn (one of my Dad’s favourites when he was climbing) , or St Sunday Crag or the Griesdale Valley route. The choice of which one can only be made on the day as it all depends on the weather. It looked bright at 6am but by the time my breakfast at The Swan was done it had clouded over slightly. Wow ! Well and truly into Lake land and it has been an overwhelming hike today . I can’t describe how perfect this day has been for me . It has been a long 15.5 mile walk , I started at 8.45 and finished at Rosthwaite near 5 . Lots of walking , a big climb and a big drop down into the beautiful valley of Borrowdale . This day in the lakes truly has it all covered – clever was Wainwright for devising a route that delivered so much in one day .
