Day 30 Rest Day – Polperro

Day 30   Rest Day – Polperro

The sun shone all day for my second and final rest day – and this special place was ideal for the job!

This stunning town that you really do not see until you descend right into it, as I discovered yesterday,  is tucked away in between high hills and stretches out along two parallel roads from its harbour.  It was originally a fishing village but because of its hidden, isolated location it became the  smuggling headquarters with hidden tunnels running under the village coming out to the back of caves on its beach.    It’s history is fascinating.  The little shops, art galleries  and brightly painted cottages that cling to steep cliffs and pubs  – full of character and charm.

After a late breakfast my number one goal after yesterday was to swim.  Lesley and Steve , who are one day ahead message in daily – Lesley had said the water had been a healer for her legs, shins and feet.    I was heading straight to heal after breakfast .

I swam and read on the beach and lay in the sun.   It was just heaven.   I was feeling the healing.

Then it was afternoon tea time so off I went to have the cake I had spotted at breakfast and a little wander and stopped to buy a lovely painting of Polperro by a local man who was a retired police officer now spending his days painting Polperro .

This exertion was followed by an afternoon nap.  I was taking the rest in rest day very seriously.

Dinner was at the old, beautiful, much photographed and painted Blue Peter Inn – I got a window seat which was coveted because of the heat and then low and behold, it all changed .   A storm came out of nowhere and within the space of 10 minutes there was thunder, lightening and hail .  Everyone ran to batten down the hatches just as the power went out.   It was a lock in by sheer force of nature.    Everyone in and waiting it out – eventually it eased so everyone made a run for it.

I fell asleep to the sound of rain on my window, feet feeling rested and skin feeling the benefit of the sand and sea.

Night night from this beautiful place that has stood still in time.   I was so grateful to have stood still here for a while too.   xxx

Beautiful Polperro

  1. This rest day came at the right time, I’m sure it was not only welcome but necessary after yesterdays extreme heat and the challenging accents and decents
Swimming in that cooling, healing water must have been glorious. Well deserved short respite in such a beautiful place
    🥾🥾❤️❤️.
